Title Case Converter

Shape a line into Title Case for headlines and names. Major words capitalize; short connectors such as “of” and “and” stay lowercase unless they start or end the line. Multi-line titles are handled one line at a time.

How the conversion works

Words are split on whitespace. Small words (a, an, the, of, in, on, at, to, for, and, but, or, nor) stay lowercase unless they are the first or last word on a line. Apostrophes keep the rest of the word lowercase—don’t becomes Don’t. Punctuation attached to a word stays attached, so “hello, world!” becomes “Hello, World!”. Hyphenated compounds get a simple treatment: each whitespace-separated token is considered on its own. The small-word list is fixed and English-oriented; other languages may need a manual pass.

Title Case versus sentence case

Title Case shines on article titles, book names, navigation labels, and UI headings. Body paragraphs usually read better in sentence case. If your style guide prefers AP or Chicago quirks around hyphenated compounds, treat this converter as a strong first pass you can tweak in a minute or two. Marketing calendars full of raw event names become presentation-ready after a single convert pass. Style guides disagree on hyphenated compounds, so expect light edits for those titles.

Multi-line titles

Each line is handled on its own, so a stacked poster title still capitalizes the first and last word of every line correctly. Paste a column of raw titles from a spreadsheet, convert once, then copy the cleaned list back—line breaks are preserved throughout. Keeping one title per line makes batch cleanup straightforward without losing order.

Frequently asked questions

Which small words stay lowercase?

a, an, the, of, in, on, at, to, for, and, but, or, nor—unless they are the first or last word of the line.

How are apostrophes handled?

The first letter of the word is capitalized and the rest is lowercased, so “don’t” becomes “Don’t”.

Does it know brand spellings like iPhone?

No special brand dictionary is applied. Unusual spellings may need a quick manual edit after conversion.

Can I convert several titles at once?

Yes. Put each title on its own line; Title Case runs per line and keeps your line breaks.

Is there a keyboard shortcut?

Use Tab to reach the Title Case button, then Enter or Space to activate it. Undo is available afterward.
